The Manhattan Yacht Club Challenge is scheduled for Saturday 6 February and it sure is a challenge!
Unfortunately our friends from the MYC are not able to make their annual pilgrimage to the BVI this year but we are determined not to let the date go unmarked.
The Challenge has a unique history, with it's fundamental basis being friendship and solidarity amongst sailors. The story began following the tragic events of 9/11, when the RBVIYC and the WEYC welcomed the Manhattan sailors. In 2002, Commodore Michael Fortenbaugh suggested an annual Club Challenge and donated the striking Statue of Liberty Trophy.
In the ensuing years, the Royals and the Loyals duked it out between them until in 2016 Manhattan entered the fray as well.
And now 2021, a Challenge without the Challenger! What to do…? We will miss our friends from Manhattan but feel it is our duty to get out on the water and have some fun!
So join the Royals and the Loyals for a family day sail - anything goes - dinghy, yacht, powerboat, kiteboard or windsurfer. If you don't have a boat or don't know how to sail, no problem - register your interest and we'll organize a boat for you. It really is that simple.
Bring your own food and drink, we will provide a BBQ and extra coolers.
Destination to be confirmed depending on the weather forecast.
Donations to Youth Sailing welcomed!
