Greetings to all members, sponsors, friends and supporters.
With the start of the new season almost upon us, and dare I say the worst of the hurricane season behind us, I think we can all look forward to some fun and relaxation.
Covid cast a shadow over last year, but the BVI is taking steps to reopen for tourism and make it easier for visitors to enjoy the best it has to offer.
I expect that this will mean many old friends will return to enjoy our great sailing, beautiful islands and sunny shores, and many new ones will come as well. The charter boat companies are reporting excellent bookings but still have some spaces.
While finalizing the Race Calendar for the coming year and reviewing our events, it stood out to me just how many of the races have an amazingly long and storied history. The oldest races, ‘The Sweethearts’ and ‘Foxy’s Wooden Boat Regatta’ have been in existence for 43 and 42 years respectively.
Of course, not many of our members were around at the creation of those events (sic) but many of them have stories to tell about the early days
Thank you all for supporting the Club through its existence and particularly the difficult few years since Irma as the island has recovered and rebuilt.
I attach our 2021/22 Race Calendar and hope that members will renew their participation in these events and look forward to seeing you.
Come visit us at Omar’s in Soper’s Hole and admire our de facto clubhouse and splendid 47’ wooden flagpole.
PS. Our membership secretary Steevi (steevibvi@gmail.com) will be delighted to hear from you and our nominal membership fee remains ‘The Best Deal on the Island’.
